to dig in forward of the this road. At 6.5 a.m. "C" Company reported that the Battalion was held up by uncut wire this side of the objective at R.14 central, this was confirmed by a message from "D" Company. At this point they came under hostile rifle and machine gun fire which was vigorously replied to. The O.C. "D" Company then saw a gap in the wire on his left which was being utilized by "B" COmpany he thereupon followed "B" Company through & joined with them in bombing the trench from R.14 b 2. 2 to R 14 b. 9.1. clear of the enemy.

At 7.5 a.m. all objectives had been reached but there were a few of the enemy remaining in the trench running from R.14.b 5. 1. to R 15 [14? - GGD] a. 2. 1. These were speedily dealt with with bombs. At 9.40 a.m. it was reported to BDE H.Q. that all objectives had been gained & that we were consolidating our new positiions. As the result of the attack the whole of the objectives (situated on high ground overlooking the HINDENBURG LINE and its strong points) were gained. By 12.30. p.m. the position was completely clear of the enemy and the companies settled down to dig themselves in. Total of prisoners captured, 1 officer 39 O.R. All ranks behaved with the utmost gallantry & dash & were splendidly led. The advance under the barrage was made cooly & steadily as on a parade ground.

Below is a copy of the Special Order of the Day issued by the G.O.C concerning the operations.
