All day the Battalion was occupied consolidating and improving trenches & establishing posts forward of new positions.

Hostile artillery very active day & night

During the night our line was advanced 50 yards and a loop made to join with the advanced trenches thus forming a strong defensive flank on the right

Also, a considerable amount of wire was placed in front of our position.

During the night the whole of the trenches were wire & deepened. A machine gun, located in vicinity of LA VACQUERIE, which had troubled us with enfilade fire was spotted & put out of action by our LEWIS GUNS.

The summit of the hill marking our new position was marked with a board RHONDDA HILL

The whole of our front thoroughly patrolled druing the night. A hostile working party observed at 2 a.m. were dispersed by our fire. Trenches were further deepened and improved. Further to the report of the hostile M.G. which was "scissored" by our Lewis Guns last night, Lt F. T. WILLIAMS & six men proceeded to reconnoitre the position. They found a trench 1.5 to 2' deep untraversed & showing no signs of
