CALONNE   1/9/16 (01/08/16?)
WALL Street & MORGAN
trench were frequently and heavily bombarded with aerial darts. The effect of these is very local and damage to trenches small so that head cover, preferably in the rear of the traverses would probably provide efficient protection against these missiles.

Our patrols report that the enemy has considerably its strengthened his wire in front of the CITE CORNAILLES since our last occupation of these trenches.

It it has been decided to make a parapet on the CALONNE side of MORGAN trench. This parapet will be quite invisible to the enemy and will save many casualties due to blowback from darts and bombs falling in the open space between MORGAN trench and the NEW SUPPORT line.     Casualties - 2. O.R wounded.

2/9/16 (02/08/16?)

Good work done improving our wire at PITPROP corner and filling up gaps between existing knife rests in this vicinity.

Deepening of MORGAN trench and building up of parapet commenced.

The trench up the side of the BURNING BING needs deepening - this work has been taken in hand and about 6 yards of the worst portion has been dealt with and now affords complete protection against enemy snipers.

Patrols have been sent out constantly during the last four nights but have not met any hostile patrols, nor have enemy working parties been seen in No man's land. These patrols on two occasions reported enemy at work in his saps in front of CITE CORNAILLES. Bombardment of these saps caused abrupt cessation of work.

      Casualties - 1 O.R killed, 3 O.R wounded.
