Right SUBsector
D Coy in Right
Subsector, with A Coy in Right Support On relief taking place information was passed that the enemy artillery had cut 2 gaps in our wire in R. 14 on the Right Coy front. In consequence the gaps were repaired and listening posts established at these points. At 2.30 a.m. the enemy attempted to raid one of these posts and a loud explosion was heard. L. Gunfire was at once opened on them. In answer to a rocket which burst into 3 yellow balls the enemy put down a heavy TM, H.E. & M.G. barrage on our line but nothing further developed & the enemy never got beyond our wire. Our artillery was prompt & effective and enemy fire soon ceased. Search parties were sent out immediately to secure idenification and 2 larg unexploded Bangalore torpedoes were brough in. On the following night over 500 bombs and a large number of German rifles were found in No MAN'S LAND. HPABailey - 2/Lt. |
