Battalion in Front Line. ^|On night of 30/31st August| A
strong raiding patrol consisting of 2 officers (2/Lt T T. DAVIES and
2/Lt J REDROBE) and 30 O.R. - the whole unde the command of Capt
C.M.DUNN attempted to enter FARM TRENCH by the aid of a Bangalore
Torpedo - The party was accompanied by 2/Lt E.F. BORRIE R.E. the
officer specially detailed to fire the torpedo. 2 thick belts of wire
- over 30 yds apart prevented the success of the enterprise and the party
withdrew about 4 am with firing the torpedo - no hostile patrols were
encountered. Casualties 1 O.R. wounded.

Battalion in Front Line. On the night 31st August/1st Septr a raiding
party consisting of 2 officers (a/Capt F.S.HIGSON M.C. & 2/Lt T.T.DAVIES)
and 30 O.R. - the whole under command of Capt. C. M. DUNN again
attempted to raid FARM TRENCH by the aid of a Bangalore Torpedo.
The party left our advanced trenches on the Left Coy front at 9 pm and
reached the enemy wire at point R 9 c. 20. 00 about 10.50 pm. The wire
was found to be too wide for the bangalore and Capt HIGSON M.C.
commenced to cut a gap. The pag in the outer wire was about completed
and the bangalore inserted when the raiding party was discovered by a
large hostile working paty. The raiders at once opened rapid fie and and
inflicted several casualties on the enemy. Very heavy rifle fire and M.G.
fire was opened on the raiding party in reply and Capt F.S. HIGSON
M.C. ordered a withdrawal. This was being
