The enemy is also evidently suffering from the condition of the ground etc. as a German was seen walking along the enemys front line and appeared to have difficulty in getting along on account of the mud.

A party of the enemy were observed drilling in field below MOISLAINS WOOD.

The rations tonight were taken up to the front line Companies together with the two days rations of 'A' which were not delivered and the one days rations of 'C'.

TRENCHES  30-XII-16

Artillery activity marked on both sides. Front and Support Lines and Bttn HQ heavily shelled and his Machine guns were also active and occasioned three casualties.

Fires & smoke seen arising from parts of BOIS ST PIERRE VAAST.

Two Germans were seen wandering this morning behind the lines on our right (held by the 14th Bn. H. L. I.) Both appeared exhausted and disappeared frequently into shell holes. They were shelled by their own Artillery and once seemed to have been hit. The H. L. I. were informed and a good look-out maintained.

The work of improvement continues.

A Reconnoitring patrol was sent out from left Coy and found the enemy wire to be in a good condition. The gaps in one front line are patrolled at regular intervals during the night.

The number of sick is increasing and 29 men were admitted to hospital today

Three of these were suffering from Trench feet and others had this complaint in its incipient stage.

Casualties :- Wounded O.R 4.
