18.2.17
Enemy opened fire on our front line at 5:35 a.m. Our telephonic communication was cut in several places and trenches partially damaged.  In response to our call for retaliation our Artillery opened fire at 5.45 a.m. on the enemys front  & Support line trenches with great effect.  Trench boards were observed being blown up in their front line & communication trenches.  One of our men got sniped while endeavouring to connect up the telephone wires about 5.15 p.m. Our Communication was re-established at 6 p.m.

Artillery on both sides was quiet all day owing to a very thick mist, at 5.10 p.m. two gas shells fell near H. Q. of our Right Coy.

Battalion in front line until 8.30 p.m. when it was relieved by the 19th Bn. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. On completion of relief Battalion marched via COMBLES to MAUREPAS RAVINE in Brigade Reserve, on arrival men were given Hot soup, tea & rum.
