RANCOURT SECTOR
1.1.1917 to 4.1.17

Battalion in Support

Whilst in support numerous cases of trench feet developed - 7 O.R on Jan1st; 74 on Jan 2nd; 11 on Jan 3rd and 10 on Jan 4th were evacuated to Hospital as suffering from trench feet. This makes it a total of 113 for the complete tour of the trenches.

Casualties :- wounded O.R 1 (Jan 1st),

struck off (sick to England 3. 1. 17)


4.1.1917

Relieved in Support Line by the 14th (S) Bn. Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders. When relief was complete Battalion marched to Camp 21.


Camp 21
5.1.17 to 8.1.17

Battalion in Brigade Reserve in Camp 21. Time devoted to cleaning up and making good generally. Capt E. W. Jeffreys struck off (sick to England) 3.1.17.

Lt. Col. C. B. Hore O.C. 17th Bn. Welsh Regt.
was relieved of the command of this Battalion and Major B. F. Murphy (12 S.W.B.) assumed command.


Right Front BOUCHAVESNES N. Sector
8.1.17

Battalion relieved the 13 th (S) Bn. Yorkshire Regiment in Right Subsector BOUCHAVESNES. N. Sector of trenches.

On the Right are the French; on the left the 12th Bn. S.W.B.

Companies were distributed:- 'B' on right; D on Left; 'C' in Support and 'A' in Reserve at ANDOVER. 400 O.R taken into line and each company left 30 O.R with Reserve Coy for purposes of ration carrying etc.

Battalion in front line. The Support Coy being in such a bad trench were relieved by the Reserve Coy

Artillery was active on both sides throughout day and night. Wire was put out in front of Right Coy. and also in front of Left. Trenches were improved and drained and duck boards put down to enable the men to have dry standings.
