GOUZEAUCOURT FRONT LINE

Disposition of the companies was as follows :- 'B' took over the right sector of the Battalion front and 'D' the left sector. 'C' company occupied the support trenches in R. 26. b. and 'A' company moved up into FIFTEEN RAVINE as reserve company.

Strong ^ |officer| patrols were sent out at night from each comany in the Front Line to keep touch with the enemy and to prevent him from repairing gaps in his wire. Patrols remained out from dusk until dawn.

A strong patrol, consisting of 3 officers and 30 OR, under command of Capt H. P. B. Gough, went out from the right company front at 9.30 pm with the object of securing identifications and examining the THE BARRACKS - R. 21. d, and enemy wire, and trenches between S.E. corner of LA VACQUERIE and the main CAMBRAI ROAD. At 9.55 p.m. - after a 5 minutes barrage ^ |as arranged| our artillery lifted off the trench referred to above and the patrol dashed forward through the gaps in the wire in 3 parties. The right and left parties entered the trench and bombed inwards whilst the centre party remained on the parapet. About R 22 a 1.1 a hostile post held by a machine gun and small infantry detachment was encountered. 2 wounded men. both belonging
