the Battalion.

Patrols sent out to examine wire report enemy's wire to be
good & thick but that a number of gaps had been cut in it by our artillery
and Trench Mortars. Our wire is reported to be fair. It needs thickening and some repairing.
Trenches in fairly good order except on extreme left near the Double
Crassier.

Two strong fighting patrols under 2 Lt L. G. Walton and Sgt.
Owen of 'B' Coy went out at about 8:40 p.m. with the intention of
forcing a fight on any enemy patrol encountered. The patrols remained
out about 3 1/2 hours then came in having seen no sign of the enemy either
in front of or behind his wire. Our T.M.'s (medium)and Stokes
Guns heavily bombarded enemy front line & wire in M .10.c. with apparently
very good results.

Two fighting patrols, under Capt Jeffreys and Lt A. J. Rees,
from Left. Coy. patrolled from 9.15 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. with the hope of
meeting the enemy. An endeavour
was made to entice enemy out by sending a small party of 3 to work along
the enemy wire but without result.
