Index to Letters of Condolence

A number of those letters are available to the writer having already been transcribed by his brother Dr Richard Challoner Cobbe Clay.   They are in a journal tenderly and affectionately compiled as a memorial to Vivian by his mother.

Vivian's father Dr Challoner Clay died in December 1916 within about a month of Vivian's death.

The journal was then typed for her by her elder son Dr Richard Challoner Cobbe Clay.   The journal is in the possession of Mr Robert R Snow who is Dr R C C Clay's grandson.

The transcriber is grateful to Mr Robert Snow for permission to photograph and publish these letters from various sources as noted below.

It is hoped that Mr Snow may also have the originals of the letters in his archive.   When available some of the originals may be posted to this site.

It must be remembered that Vivian died at about 5 a.m. in the early morning of his 24th Birthday.   There is a magnificent marble tablet on the South Wall of Fovant Parish Church commemorating this.

His name appears, with others on a brass plaque on the North Wall wall of the church as well as on the Memorial in the village near the Post Office.
